FAQ

1. Am I certain to be chosen for the program if I register?

Yes. There is no selection process at Student Business. If you hand back your registration form within the delay and are motivated, you will automatically be invited to the two workshops.

2. Is it a paid internship?

No. However, you should keep in mind the many advantages of going through the Student Business process: an internship to help validate your career choice, an experience to add to your resumé, the chance to enlarge your network and two school credits!

3. Can I do more than one internship per summer?

No. Please keep in mind there are 21 schools participating in Student Business. It is many hundreds of students who complete the process every year. Our goal is to give the opportunity to as many students as possible to do an internship.

4. Will my internship setting be located near my home?

Not necessarily. The internships take place everywhere on the island of Montreal. The only way to make sure that your internship setting will be located near your home is to find it yourself (see the How do I find my internship? section). Do not worry if you are not familiar with public transportation. Every intern is accompanied to his internship on the first morning.

5. Can I commit to an internship if I have other summer plans?

Yes. Student Business will fit in your schedule as long as you have two free weeks over the entire summer. Please keep your supervisor informed of your availabilities.

6. Am I certain to do an internship if I register?

No. First, you are required to participate in all the various steps of the process, be persistent and motivated. The internships also vary according to the mentors’ registration, your availability, etc.

7. When should I expect my internship offer?

A week or two before the activity. Do not worry should you not have received a phone call before August. Professional mentors register all year long! It is also possible for your supervisor to call you the day before the beginning of your internship in the case of a cancellation from another student or if a mentor commits and is only available to welcome interns within the next few days.

8. Can I refuse an internship offer?

Yes. You need to be sufficiently motivated to complete your internship. However, refusing an internship does not guarantee another offer.

9. Are absences tolerated during the internship?

No, due to the hours required by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport to award the credits linked to Student Business. You thus need to respect the planned hours. The only exceptions are : a doctor appointment (with a medical note) or death in your immediate family. We recommend you plan your dentist, orthodontist and doctor’s appointments during another week of the summer.
